White Horse Beach is my favorite beach. This is mostly based on the clear fresh water and the soft blanket of sand. Don’t get me wrong it does have its rocky parts. It is much more private and secluded than Plymouth Beach. This makes it more desirable for young adults to engage in parties and other activities of that nature. This causes the beach to be patrolled often by the Plymouth Police. Also, be warned that there are no bathroom facilities on white horse beach. Some do go to Manomet Center to find bathroom facilities a couple of miles away.
All of that aside I find most of the time it to be the most relaxing beach out of all I have ever been to. It is also for me the best place to swim in Plymouth and the surrounding area. It almost always has clear blue-green water. I am usually inspired to swim a mile all at once when I am there. At night small beach fires are allowed on the beach. Note: Beach fires do require a permit. For more information about beach fires contact the Plymouth Fire Department.
For me and my friends we find beach fires at night extremely relaxing with the sound of the waves and the night sky as the atmosphere. Nothing can come close to a real chill moment than that. In the months that include a large yellow or orange or reddish moon rising in the east over the water. The seen in the sky is just breathtaking as it reflects off the water.
Beaver Dam Brook runs under Taylor Avenue through the beach to the shore that flows into the ocean. The brook is walking distance from the public beach section. From the public part of White Horse Beach, head north towards the private part of the beach and you will find it. The brook provides great fun for kids that use flotation devices to float along with the current. They usually start right after the brook flows under Taylor Avenue and go right along to the ocean shore line. At low tide the ride extends that much farther. Make sure to wear shoes that are waterproof and that completely cover and protect your feet. There are thousands of small rocks that line the bottom of the brook. Most importantly make sure to keep a close eye on anyone on flotation devices. It is possible to be pushed out to sea with a prevailing west wind. It is a very good precaution to have an adult stay knee to waist deep to stop anyone from being pushed out to sea.
In the off season the beach is very quiet with not many others around. It is almost like your own private beach making any activities like walking, quiet and peaceful. On warmer off season days the beach is very tranquil and quiet perfect for meditation, prayer, and self reflection. Many times I have fallen into a wonderful restful sleep and then woken up fully refreshed to enjoy more relaxing beach time as the sun continues to warms me.
